MÁS y Mambo is a dance company in Columbus, OH. It was founded by Shanelle Marie and Mike Poe for the purpose of awakening the love of latin music in those that have yet to meet it. MÁS y Mambo strives to emphasize the afro-caribbean heritage of salsa through dance and body movement. Exploring connection is developing a greater awareness of three main components. The relationship between oneself and the music and the relationship between oneself and one's partner. With a better connection with the music, you can be more expressive and in tune with the feel of a given song. With a better connection with your partner, you are able to lead or follow with ease and create something better and bigger than either of you could individually.

Inreasing your understanding is critical to growth in any area. Courses at MÁS y Mambo focus on three types of understanding. It is critical to understand the music, in terms of identifying the instruments and the rhythms they play as well as how songs are constructed on a general level. It is critical to understand your own body. It is all good and well to understand the music and connect with it, if you cannot tap the vast potential of expresiveness that is within your body, then you are still trapped. It is also critical to understand the history and where rhythms, movements, and styles originated.

Creating community is a fundamental element of any school of social dance. It can be fun to dance alone at times, but on any long term basis it just isn't a sustainable enjoyment. With an action as simple as walking into a lesson, you immediately become a part of a community that stretches from New York to Los Angeles, from Boston to Buenos Aires, and from Atlanta to Abidjan to Auckland.
